EDAG Group and EintrachtTech, independent digital subsidiary of Eintracht Frankfurt, this year’s Europa League winners, will from now on be focusing on an all-round approach to digitalization. To achieve this aim, the two parties announced their partnership a short time ago. One example is the “Campus FreeCity real lab for the research of a networked fleet of modular robot vehicles” project, which has recently been jointly implemented and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMDV).
“At the Campus FreeCity in the Deutsche Bank Park, the focus is on a complete ecosystem that the EDAG Group has developed for the mobility, transport and service tasks of a smart city,” explains Holger Merz, CFO of the EDAG Group. The EDAG CityBots are of central importance here. These are autonomous robot vehicles which, as a result of their modular structure, can be used for a wide variety of tasks. These might be anything from the transport of people or goods to the disposal of waste or park maintenance. These vehicles are integrated in an innovative control system which facilitates efficient capacity utilization and needs-based use of the overall system, that works 24 hours a day.
With the “Arena of IoT”, EintrachtTech offers a unique digital center where this can be researched, and in which many different innovation partners and start-ups from Eintracht Frankfurt’s network are brought together.
“Eintracht Frankfurt sees itself not just as a professional soccer club: through EintrachtTech, it also takes an active role as a driver of the region in the field of digitalization,” stresses Timm Jäger, CEO of EintrachtTech GmbH. The stadium is an ideal playing field for testing “IoT” solutions in a realistic test environment in cooperation with technology partners like the EDAG Group.
